What Fishing Line Is Best for Soft Plastics?

When it comes to fishing with soft plastics, the right fishing line can make a huge difference. Soft plastics are one of the most popular types of bait for anglers of all skill levels, and the type of fishing line you use can make a big impact on your success out on the water. There are a few main types of fishing line that are best for soft plastics, including monofilament, fluorocarbon and braid lines.

Monofilament Line – Monofilament line is one of the most common types of fishing lines used by anglers. It is relatively inexpensive and easy to work with, making it a great choice for beginners or those who don’t want to invest in more expensive lines.

Monofilament also has excellent stretch and shock absorption which makes it ideal for soft plastic baits. The downside is that monofilament has a tendency to stretch over time, which can reduce its strength and increase the chances of breakage.

Fluorocarbon Line – Fluorocarbon is another popular choice for anglers who want to use soft plastic baits. This type of line is much more resistant to abrasion than monofilament and has less stretch as well.

This makes it much less likely to break when casting or retrieving your bait. Fluorocarbon also sinks faster than monofilament, so it’s great for deep water applications where you need to get your bait down quickly.

Braided Line – Braided line is another great choice for soft plastics because it has zero stretch and is extremely strong. It’s also very thin in diameter which gives you better casting distance and accuracy when using light baits like soft plastics. The downside to braided line is that it can be more difficult to work with than other types of lines and can be abrasive on your hands.

When choosing a fishing line for soft plastics, there are several factors that should be considered such as strength, stretch, abrasion resistance and visibility in the water. Ultimately, the best choice will depend on personal preference as well as the particular type of fishing you’re doing. For most applications however, monofilament, fluorocarbon or braided lines will all provide excellent performance when using soft plastic baits.
