How Do You Replace the Guide Insert on a Fishing Rod?

Fishing rods are often used to catch a variety of different species of fish. The guide insert is an important part of the rod that helps ensure the line is well positioned when casting.

This guide insert can become worn or damaged over time, making it necessary to replace it. Fortunately, this is a relatively simple task and can be done in just a few steps.

Prepare Your Gear

Before beginning to replace your guide insert, you will need to prepare your gear. Make sure you have all of the necessary tools and supplies available before starting.

This will save time and ensure that you have everything you need for the job ahead. You will need a pair of pliers, tweezers, a small flathead screwdriver, some wooden matches or toothpicks, and some glue.

Remove Old Insert

The next step is to remove the old insert from your fishing rod. Start by carefully prying up one side of the insert with your screwdriver or tweezers and gently remove it from its seat in the rod. If there are any pieces left behind in the seat, use your matches or toothpicks to carefully remove them as well.

Clean Out Seat

Now that all of the old pieces are removed from the seat, clean out any dirt or debris that may be stuck in it. Use your tweezers to get into tight spaces and make sure everything is completely clean before continuing on to the next step.

Apply Glue

Once everything has been cleaned out properly, apply some glue to both sides of the new guide insert before placing it in its seat inside of your fishing rod. Make sure that it is secure within its seat before moving on to the next step.

Secure Insert

Finally, use your pliers to secure the new insert in place inside of your fishing rod by firmly pressing down on each side of it until it is firmly secured inside its seat within your rod. Allow it time to dry before using it again so that everything stays securely in place while fishing with it again.

Summary

Replacing a worn or damaged guide insert on a fishing rod doesn’t have to be complicated process if you have all of the right tools and supplies available beforehand. Just make sure that you take care when removing any pieces from their seats, properly clean out any dirt or debris left behind, apply some glue before placing back into its seat, and then secure with pliers until dry for best results when replacing this part on any type of fishing rod.
